Alpha readers see work in progress — sometimes chapter by chapter, sometimes as a messy first draft. This program is for personal contacts and trusted readers who understand that early-stage work is incomplete by design.
What alpha readers do
- Read very early drafts — sometimes incomplete, sometimes rough
- Offer frank, detailed observations — what’s working, what isn’t, what’s unclear
- Respond promptly — alpha reading has tighter turnarounds than beta
- Maintain strict confidentiality about the content they read
The relationship
Alpha reading is a close collaboration. It requires trust on both sides. If you’re not sure whether you’ve been personally invited, you haven’t been.
